Housed in a shipping container La Cocina Pública was a mobile kitchen that brought people together through theatre, food and dining. Travelling from Chile through cities and neighbourhoods in search of local recipes, aromas, practices and customs, Teatro Container worked with Cork’s South Parish residents to share stories and food that will be enjoyed at delicious collective dining events – with Chilean and Cork artists, storytellers, singers and musicians providing you with memories and entertainment.
La Cocina Pública drew stories from local people to create some memorable dining experiences for audiences to enjoy. Resulting in 4 live outdoors dining performances for 600 people on Sawmill Street in the grounds of St John’s College all hosted from a shipping container. Involved 20 local and regional cross-sectoral partners in community development, health, food, culture and business.
Funded by Cork City Council, University College Cork, Ministerio De La Cultura, Las Artes Y El Patrimonio, Hse Cork Kerry Community Healthcare – Cork South Community Work Department, Douglas Street Business Association and Down2earth Materials.
With additional support from St John’s Central College, Coláiste Daibhéid, Cork Flower Studio, Healthy Cities Cork, Green Spaces For Health, Cork Food Policy Council, The Lantern Project, Nano Nagle Place, Cork Migrant Centre, The Mature Student Office, UCC and Centre for Adult Continuing Education, UCC. A South Parish Learning Neighbourhood event.
