Returning to Cork Midsummer Festival in 2013 Toronto-based research-art atelier Mammalian Diving Reflex presented Eat the Street: a crack-team of children are trained as restaurant critics and are charged with offering their brutally honest, uncensored opinions on restaurants' food, service, decor, and the charm of their waiters. Children from North Presentation Primary School took part in a culinary session with a professional chef before visiting a selection of Cork’s restaurants to be fed and feted ahead of their reviews.
For only the cost of a meal, the public sat amongst the kids for a front-row view of the junior connoisseurs in action. The experience culminated in an uproarious awards ceremony at the end of the festival, where the children handed out awards for everything from “Coolest Chef” to “Least Graffiti in the Toilets”!
The performance of Eat the Street is made possible in part by grants from the Ontario Arts Council’s National and International Touring Program, and the Canada Council for the Arts’ Theatre International Program. Thanks to our restaurant partners Greenes Restaurant, Boardwalk Bar & Grill, Amicus, Uncle Petes, Fenn’s Quay Restaurant, The Weir Bistro at The River Lee Hotel, Gourmet Burger Bistro & Bodega.
