Be Part Sharing

Home is Where the Art was a free public event in Cork city that invited the audience to make art, enjoy our hospitality, put your feet up and relax. The Creative Communities was made up of 20 women living here in cork from all over the world, who created a pop-up home in the heart of cork city.

The group served Irish tea and Arabic coffee along with Mikate, and guided participants to help sew their quilt of shared stories, make a badge and take a print home.
Creative Connections was a two-year intercultural arts training programme for Cork women run by Mayfield Arts Newbury House and Cork Midsummer Festival. Funded by the European Integration Fund, the training programme was for both Irish born women, and women from different countries including Burma, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq, Nigeria, Somalia and South Africa.
The programme included weekly visual arts workshops at Mayfield Arts Newbury House led by artists Aine Crowley, Carolyn Collier and Columbian artist Julian Urrego. Activities included projects in printing techniques such as dry point and etching as well as pyrography (burning into wood) and embroidery and collage.
In 2011, Creative Connections also worked with a guest artist—writer and performer Priscilla Robinson—to develop Home is Where the Art Is. Previous work by Priscilla includes Help Me! Help Me! presented at the Dublin Absolut Fringe, KuddelMuddel, The Show about The Show, and The Robinsons’ Sunday Roadshow Café.
This project is co-financed by the European Commission under the European Integration Fund and is supported by the Office of the Minister for Integration and Pobal.
