F*ck My Life (FML) was an original theatre production from Cork Midsummer Festival dealing with the tragedy of Ireland’s teen suicide epidemic. The production which was created by 15 Cork teenagers and Belgian director Pol Heyvaert toured to The Everyman, Cork, Dublin, Belfast, Limerick, Tralee and internationally in 2010 and 2011.
What’s it really like being a teenager today? And how on earth do you become a happy one? What drives teenagers to profound sadness or extreme violence? Ireland has one of the highest teen suicide rates in Europe. What about the rest of the world?
Directed by one of Europe’s finest theatre directors, Pol Heyvaert of CAMPO Gent, FML cast a spotlight on the lives of 15 young Corkonians in a ‘whodunit’, or better….who’ll do it. Who is the funniest, most beautiful, most dangerous? Who will fall by the wayside? Who won’t live to see twenty? Who needs help? FML was a performance for all teenagers and everyone who has ever been one…
A co-production by Cork Midsummer Festival, CAMPO Gent, LIFT, Ulster Bank Belfast Festival at Queen’s and Everyman Palace Theatre. Funded by a Small Arts Award from the Wellcome Trust. Tour supported by Culture Ireland. Original workshops co-commissioned by Cork Midsummer Festival and Granary.
