Get your dancing shoes on and celebrate the summer solstice as a time-traveling band of traditional musicians and dancers explore the history of our island’s social dancing from 2024 BC to 2024 AD.
Re-inventing the fading art of the céilí, come dance your way through 4000 years from the bronze and stone ages to the puritanical waltz of the 1940s and finishing by raving to reels in the polka mosh pit – this is so much more than your average céilí!
Solstice Céilí will be overseen by improvised trad band Damhsa Liomsa and Fear an Spraoi Martin O’Donoghue - acting as your guide through these dances created for Cork Midsummer Festival and this celebration of the Solstice. Come celebrate and join in the mayhem as we dance, laugh and sing our way forward from the sounds of past to present.
