Celebrating the longest day of the year, a pop-up community radio station will make its home in the heart of Cork city, featuring a diverse programme of music, conversation, and audio theatre, broadcasting live from Cork city centre.
Radio Solstice is an ear to the Otherworld, receiving sounds from the ‘thin places’ where our world connects most closely with the world of dreams, the afterlife and the unseen. Taking inspiration from Irish folk tales, where a traveller on a country road follows sounds of revelry coming from a magic portal in a hill or a field only to discover the land of the Sídhe, Radio Solstice is a digital receiver to otherworldly frequencies, where things may go unseen – but not unheard.
Elinor O’Donovan is a multidisciplinary artist based in Cork, and the recipient of the Jane Anne Rothwell Award for 2024. Working with DJ John Bosteels (Fleece) and musician Caoilian Sherlock (The Tan Jackets, Quarter Block Party) to deliver Radio Solstice, O’Donovan aims to apply a visual art approach to audio programming.
With additional support from Cork City Council Arts Office.
