Radio Solstice - seeking proposals from DJs, musicians, poets, performers

Radio Solstice is accepting proposals from DJs, musicians, artists, poets, and performers who wish to host a radio show as part of our schedule for Cork Midsummer Festival. Radio Solstice will be broadcast online over eight days of the festival, from 13 -16 & 20 - 23 June 2024.

About Radio Solstice

Radio Solstice is an online radio station and an ear to the Otherworld, receiving sounds from the ‘thin places’ where our world connects most closely with the world of dreams, the afterlife and the unseen. As in Irish folk tales, where a traveller on a country road follows sounds of revelry coming from a magic portal in a hill or a field only to discover the land of the Sídhe, Radio Solstice is a digital receiver to otherworldly frequencies, where things may be unseen but not unheard. Taking place at the midpoint of summer, halfway between Bealtaine and Lughnasa, Radio Solstice is also a sonic celebration of the sun and her celestial energy.

We welcome proposals for radio shows which respond to Radio Solstice in any number of ways and could explore, but are not limited to, sun-worship, technopaganism, astrology, Pre-Christian Irish mythology, folk music, fairies, magic, the astral body, the land, Irish language, the zodiac, folk rituals and many other ideas related to the theme of the summer solstice.

We are also excited to hear about proposals for shows which are not just music-based and which could incorporate conversation, poetry, spoken-word, storytelling and radio theatre.

How to apply

Please fill out the following Google Form by 29th April 2024, 5pm: https://forms.gle/SDPQva4jSwXgypj7A

Other details

Radio hosts will be paid at a rate of €25/hour. You will have the option to propose either a 1-hour or 2-hour long show.

Experience using DJ or radio broadcast equipment is not necessary as a technician and/or producer will be available for your show should you need one. We are more excited to hear about good ideas rather than technical expertise.

There is a very small budget for pre-recorded shows as radio hosts will be required to broadcast live on-air.

The location for Radio Solstice is TBC, but it is hoped there will be a venue for public broadcasting.

Please direct any queries to radiosolsticecork@gmail.com.
