  • Music

A new piece of music for chamber orchestra by celebrated Cork composer, John O’Brien, commissioned by Cork Midsummer Festival.

The piece explores our collective contradictory feelings around how to celebrate the joys of being together and the beautiful things in our lives, whilst also acknowledging the anxiety that most of us feel about current world events, challenges and the stresses of modern living.

A follow on from John O’Brien’s 2021 piece Lullaby for the City (In Time of Pandemic) which saw an orchestra visit four outdoor city centre locations, this time we will gather indoors, with the audience amongst the musicians.

Immersive performances will take place in city centre communities with the orchestra travelling to community halls, followed by a one night only performance at MTU Cork School of Music.

Performance at MTU Cork School of Music

An immersive, ticketed public performance will take place in the Curtis Auditorium. Along with Dances for the City (In Time of Angst) the programme will also include Lullaby for the City (In Time of Pandemic) and a new chamber orchestra version of towards a new enlightenment…

Community performances

The orchestra will travel to city centre community halls for immersive community performances of Dances for the City (In Time of Angst). People living, working and studying close to these locations will be directly invited to join for these performances.
