Cúinní an Ghiorria

Is seanchleachtas feirmeoireachta é cúinne páirce a fhágáint fiáin ionas go mairfeadh plandaí agus ainmhithe éagsúla slán ann.

Leis an saothar nua rince seo agus leis na ceardlanna a bheidh á reáchtáil, fáiltímíd romhat “cúinní nua don ghiorria” a chruthú linn — ag tarraingt ar ár ndúchas agus ár n-aiteacht le todhchaí níos beomhaire a mhúnlú dúinn go léir. Tar is bí ag súgradh linn.

Tógadh Fearghus i nGaeltacht na Rinne agus tá aitheantas bainte amach aige go hidirnáisiúnta as deiseanna a chruthú don éagsúlacht a cheiliúradh trí rince corraitheach, cumhachtach, agus álainn.

In traditional farming, the hare’s corner is ground left wild so different plants and animals can flourish in safety. As we search for more sustainable lives, languages and communities, choreographer Fearghus Ó Conchúir, who grew up in the Ring Gaeltacht, invites you to join him and his award-winning collaborators in creating new “corners for the hare” in the centre of Cork. Before each performance you can experience workshops drawing on the knowledge of Irish language speakers, Irish Sign Language users, ecologists, queer communities, singers, poets and of course dancers. And each performance is followed by an inclusive céilí. Come and play with us.

Community Workshops Schedule

Ceardlann scríbhneoireachta cruthaithí do fhoghlaimeoirí fásta le Ola Majekodunmi agus Daniel Flynn ó Off the Scéal - As Gaeilge
Creative writing workshop for adults re/learning re/discovering Irish with Ola Majekodunmi and Daniel Flynn from Off the Scéal – In Irish with translation

Dé Sathairn 20 Meitheamh / Saturday 20 June | 12pm | Free, Booking Required here.

Off The Scéal is a multilingual open mic night co-curated by poet & playwright Daniel Flynn and broadcaster, writer & creative producer Ola Majekodunmi. Born in Dublin as a space for poets, musicians, storytellers and comedians from all backgrounds, Off The Scéal is bringing its energy to Cork as part of Cúinní an Ghiorria at Cork Midsummer Festival.

As part of this visit, we're offering a beginner's workshop using the Irish language as a creative tool, no fluency required, just curiosity. Participants will experiment with simple Irish vocabulary and structures while crafting original poems, stories or spoken-word pieces, blending basic language learning with imaginative writing prompts. The workshop builds confidence to share work aloud, finishing with the chance to perform in the true spirit of the open mic.

Is oíche oscailte ilteangach é Off The Scéal, a bhunaigh file & drámadóir Daniel Flynn agus craoltóir, scríbhneoir & léiritheoir cruthaitheach Ola Majekodunmi. Rugadh Off the Scéal i mBaile Átha Cliath mar spás d'fhilí, do cheoltóirí, do scéalaithe agus do fhuirseoirí ó gach cúlra, agus anois tá Off The Scéal ag teacht go Corcaigh mar chuid de Chúinní an Ghiorria ag Féile Mheitheamh an tSamhraidh Chorcaí.

Mar chuid den chuairt seo, beidh ceardlann ar fáil againn ina n-úsáidtear an Ghaeilge mar uirlis chruthaitheach, níl gá le líofacht, níl uait ach fiosracht. Beidh deis ag rannpháirtithe triail a bhaint as focail agus struchtúir shimplí Gaeilge agus saothar nua á chruthú acu, dánta, scéalta nó píosaí labhartha. Cuirfidh an cheardlann muinín ionat chun do chuid oibre a roinnt os ard, agus beidh deis ann ansin é a léiriú in ard-oíche fíor oscailte.

Ceardlann amhránaíochta le Nell Ní Chróinín - As Gaeilge
Sean nós singing workshop with Nell Ní Chróinín – in Irish with translation

Tum isteach i gcroílár amhránaíochta thraidisiúnta na hÉireann sa cheardlann Sean-Nóis seo. Is cuma más tosaitheoir thú san amhránaíocht nó duine atá fiosrach faoin sean nós, tá uair an chloig speisialta romhat leis an t-amhránaí aitheanta, Nell Ní Chróinín.Beidh deis foghlamtha ó chainteoir dúchais atá fréamhaithe i dtraidisiún saibhir amhránaíochta Mhuscraí.

Déanfaimíd iniúchadh ar stair an tSean-Nóis, éistfimid le taifeadtaí, agus blaisfaimíd scil na h-ornáidíochta sula dtabharfaimid faoi amhrán nó dhó.

Ní bheidh aon bhrú. Beidh an cur chuige gealchroíoch, cuimsitheach, agus bunaithe ar rannpháirtíocht ag cibé leibhéal a bhfuil tú compordach leis. Fáilte ó chroí roimh dhaoine nach cainteoirí Gaeilge iad.

Níl ach 20 áit – mar sin ná caill amach.

Dive into the heart of Irish traditional singing in this warm, welcoming Sean nós workshop. Whether you're a complete beginner or a curious listener, you're in for a special hour.

Rooted in the rich singing tradition of Muscraí, this workshop offers a rare chance to learn from a native speaker who brings deep personal connection to every song. Together, we'll explore the history of Sean nós, listen to classic recordings, and unpack the subtle art of ornamentation before having a go ourselves at a song or two.No pressure, no performance anxiety. The approach is light-hearted, inclusive, and built around participation at whatever level you're comfortable. Non-Irish speakers are warmly welcome. Places are limited to 20, so don't miss out.

Ceardlann ióga le Síle Ní Bhroin - Gaeilge agus Béarla
Yoga Workshop with Síle Ní Bhroin – in Irish and English

Dé Sathairn 20 Meitheamh / Saturday 20 June | 4pm | Free, Booking Required here.

Tá Síle Ní Bhroin (Dearcán Ióga) ag múineadh ióga le 12 bliain, as Gaeilge agus as Béarla. Is breá léi a bheith ar an imeall - ag obair sna ceantair Ghaeltachta agus cois farraige go háirithe. Is ann a bhíonn an draíocht! Fíonn sí an teanga agus an béaloideas agus fáinní na bliana ina cuid cleachtais ióga. Síleann Síle gurb í an chuid is tábhachtaí den seisiún ióga ná an cleachtas 'Ióga Nidra' nuair a chiúnaíonn an corp is an meon, agus bíonn deis ann don suaimhneas.

Sa cheardlann seo beidh teacht le chéile chun cleachtas a dhéanamh ar Ióga Hatha, Beannú na Gréine don Ghrianstad, agus cleachtas breá fada den Ióga Nidra le drumadóireacht gréine agus filíocht.

Please bring your own yoga mat.

Síle Ní Bhroin of Dearcán Yoga has been teaching yoga through Irish and English for 12 years. She loves working in the liminal spaces of the Gaeltacht areas and by the sea - it's where the magic flows! She weaves language and folklore and the cycles of the seasons into her yoga practice. Síle considers the 'Yoga Nidra' as the most important part of the practice, when the body and mind has a chance to quieten and become peaceful.

In this workshop, people will gather together to practice Hatha Yoga, salute the Solstice sun and absorb a long Yoga Nidra practice including sun drumming and poetry.

Tabhair leat do mata yoga féin.

Siúlóid Dúlra sa Chathair
Nature Walk in the City

Dé Domhnaigh 21 Meitheamh / Sunday 21 June | Free to attend, no booking required, all welcome.

Join zoologist Éinne Ó Cathasaigh and the Cork QueerNature Collective for a guided nature walk along the Marina Promenade, exploring the living city through the lenses of ecology, queer nature, and the Irish language. The walk will be led as Gaeilge agus as Béarla (in Irish and English), weaving together wildlife, plant life, and the rich ways we talk about the natural world. Éinne will have Irish language plant ID books on hand, and there'll be plenty of perspectives from the Cork QNC community to bring the queer nature themes to life.

Meeting Point + Getting There
Meet at the large red sheltered structure near Páirc Uí Chaoimh (Google Maps link). Take the 202 bus to Ballintemple and walk the promenade back towards town — one easy, scenic direction.

Children are welcome accompanied by an adult. Just bring yourself and maybe a water bottle or notebook. Everything else will be provided!

Ceardlann Rince: An Ghaeilge agus an Éiceolaíocht Aiteach
Movement Workshop with Fearghus Ó Conchúir – Irish language and Queer Ecology

Dé Domhnaigh 21 Meitheamh / Sunday 21 June | Free, Booking Required here.

Beidh ceardlann rince á thairiscint ag Fearghus Ó Conchúir agus ag a fhoireann rince do dhaoine go bhfuil suim acu an Ghaeilge, an éiceolaíocht agus an aiteacht a bhraith agus a thuiscint trí ghluaisteacht agus trí chomhrá.

Cé dóibh? Beidh an rince lárnach sa cheardlann ach beidh failte roimh gach saghas taithí gluaiseachta agus deis ag daoine páirt a ghlacadh pé slí a chuireann ar a gcompord iad.

Beidh an Ghaeilge mar phríomhtheanga labhartha na ceardlainne agus ateangaireacht mar is gá. Beidh fáilte roimh aon taithí atá ag daoine teangacha eile a úsáid chomh maith.

Cén fáth?: Tá acmhainn i dteangacha agus i dtaithí imeallacha gur fiú a fhorbairt is a roinnt ionas nach gcaillfimid a leas.

Caith pé rud gur mian leat le bheith socair agus tú ag gluaiseacht.

Fearghus Ó Conchúir and his collaborators are hosting a workshop for people who are interested in experiencing and understanding through movement the connections between Irish language, ecology and queer experience.

Who is it for? You’re welcome to this dance workshop whatever your movement practice or experience. The workshop will be accessible to participation in whatever way feels comfortable.

Irish will be the main language of the workshop. There will be interpretation as needed. We also welcome experience of other minority languages to add to the richness.

Why? Because marginalised experiences and languages contain resources that are important to acknowledge and develop for future flourishing.

Wear whatever makes you comfortable to move.
