New opportunities for artists with Cork Midsummer Festival

Applications now open for two opportunities for artists with Cork Midsummer Festival - the Jane Anne Rothwell award, and Tales of Two Cities.

Jane Anne Rothwell Award 2023

The Festival is delighted to launch the fourth Open Call for the Jane Anne Rothwell Award. The Jane Anne Rothwell Award is a prize of €5,000 awarded annually to an emerging artist – either from Cork, or based in Cork – working in any discipline, who identifies as female.

Jane Anne Rothwell was the inspirational Chair of Cork Midsummer Festival from 2013 – 2018. A leading figure in Cork’s legal and business community, Jane Anne was an incredible mentor to, and champion of, women in the arts.

The award will support bold and innovative projects that respond to the city of Cork – whether that involves traditional arts venues, digital activities, surprising site-specific locations, diverse communities, the city’s history, geography, politics, or its people – reflecting the place in which we live in an engaging and dynamic way.

Deadline for applications is Friday 10 February - full details on the award, and how to apply, available here.

Tales of Two Cities - artist development programme

Applications are also now open for Tales of Two Cities, an artist development programme for very early career theatre artists, in an international partnership between Cork Midsummer Festival and The Everyman in Cork, Ireland and MAYK and Bristol Old Vic in Bristol, UK.

Aimed at very early career theatre artists – ie with a maximum of three years professional practice.- interested in making theatre and developing their practice in forms other than playwriting. For artists from or based in Cork, who are finding their voice and figuring out how to articulate and focus their vision. We want to support a new cohort of theatre makers to develop their practice in Cork city and county.

Deadline for applications is Monday 13 February at 12pm (noon) - full details on the award, and how to apply, available here.
