Each performance is a testament to the inspiring artistry that is alive and well in Cork, with artists fearlessly pushing sound forward through creative experimentation. Discover the innovative sounds that define the city’s unique musical identity.
PARTICIPATING ARTISTS
Sweet&chilli___ (DJ) [Crawford & Co., 12pm - 2pm]
Maria Pereda, better known by her Sweet&chilli___ alias specializes in spinning soulful and deep house music. Cutting her teeth in creating custom soundscapes for restaurants around Madrid and Cork, Sweet&chilli___ makes a lasting impression, embracing a wide variety of genres from mellow jazz to driving beats.
Roslyn Steer (live) [Downstairs at The Roundy, 2pm-3pm]
Roslyn Steer is a Cork-based musician known for her work both as a solo musician and in collaboration with groups such as Crevice (with Elaine Howley and Irene Buckley) and the Cork Improvised Music Club. Her sound touches on folk, pop, ambient, drone, and improvised musics and is usually well-soaked in reverb. For this event, Roslyn will be playing a chilled-out set featuring double bass and vocals.
Mineral Stunting (live) [Downstairs at The Round, 3pm-4pm]
Alias of Cork’s Lighght, purveyor of gulch ambient, sounds like smoke over a bog with a light shining on through.
Alan Massey (live) [Fionnbarra, 4pm - 5pm]
Alan Massey is a sound artist and guitarist from Newcastle West in County Limerick. Exploring the intersection between digital and analogue technologies, his productions have a raw and ethereal quality. He combines stereo field recordings and found sounds to compose textural pieces that are evocative of forgotten times and landscapes.
HowlBux (live) [Fionnbarra, 5pm - 6pm]
The project of musicians and composers Elaine Howley and Irene Buckley, who create atmospheric textures with ghosted vocals and synths. Sometimes pop, sometimes improvisational and exploratory, HowlBux creates atmospheres from the serene and hypnotic to the dense and immersive.
DOSE (DJ) [Franciscan Well, 6pm - 8pm]
DOSE is a Cork-based multi-disciplinary platform creating spaces and events for local talent, the diaspora and artists based in Ireland. The collective is a meeting of minds and messers all committed to the growth of underground art and music in the city.
ELLLL (Ellen King) [Crane Lane, 9pm - 11pm]
ELLLL is Cork Midsummer Festival artist in residence 2023 – 2024. An Irish multi- disciplinary composer, producer and DJ based in Berlin, writing and performing music under her own name and ELLLL moniker, Ellen has carved out a distinctive voice in both contemporary and club-music contexts. Ellen is a founding member of Ireland’s first fem-electronic music collective, Gash Collective, and has advocated for diversity and visibility within the music scene through workshops and masterclasses. In addition to her work in club music, Ellen has also worked extensively as a multi-disciplinary artist with commissions and collaborations for a slew of contemporary music projects in the realms of visual arts, film, installation, dance and performance art. Most recently for Cork Midsummer Festival, she collaborated with artist Oonagh Kearney on Birdie in 2021.
