State of Print explores the notion that printed matter is at the core of the objects that formalise a nation-state, from maps to currency, from information to governments. The project has been involving various artists brought together through a network of print studios. Each participant prints a series of images in the flat pack forms of cardboard boxes, which are then assembled on site, creating groups of building blocks displayed throughout a given space. The project was initiated by Paul Liam Harrison, Catherine Hehir, Scott Hudson, Des MacMahon, Noelle Noonan, and Suzannah O’Reilly, and has been touring Scotland, England and Spain with support from Culture Ireland. The project’s presentation in Cork, its first manifestation in Ireland, is organised by Catherine Hehir and Noelle Noonan in collaboration with Cork Printmakers.
