7pm (15 & 16 June)
3.30pm (17 June)
Neptune Stadium, Blackpool
Union Black is a vibrant mix of dance-theatre and circus from critically-acclaimed hip hop collective Far From The Norm and a selection of Europe and Ireland's best hip hop dancers and circus artists.
With a breathtaking combination of fast-paced footwork and physical floor routines, alongside the strength and skill in Chinese pole and tightwire of the circus artists, the show channels one of the globe's favourite sports - football - to tackle questions about Europe both before and after Brexit.
This athletic, energising show, created especially for Cork, complete with a pumping soundtrack, has been created especially for Cork Midsummer Festival.
Join the crowd, roaring and chanting, waiting in anticipation for the match of the year. The players: a selection of Europe’s best hip hop dancers and circus artists.
Expect them to tear up the stage – and the rule book.
Far From The Norm have performed nationally and internationally at festivals such as Sadler’s Wells’ Breakin’ Convention, VAULT Festival, Plymouth Fringe, Talawa Firsts, Austria’s Hip Hop Goes Theatre, Festival Hop! and San Francisco’s International Hip Hop Dance Fest. They have presented work in theatres and venues across the UK. The artists’ past performances include Birdgang Dance Company, Hofesh Shechter Company and the Olympics Opening Ceremony.
Union Black is part of a project funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union; Circus250 Diverse, Real, Physical. Union Black is a co-production between Crying Out Loud, Cork Midsummer Festival, Le Plus Petit Cirque du Monde and Subtopia.
This production could not be possible without the generous financial support of the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, The Arts Council, UCC Creative, an initiative of University College Cork, Institut Français, The British Council and Cork City Council Arts Office.
