Announcing European hip hop / circus Union Black and award-winning Corcadorca Theatre Company!

Announcing European hip hop / circus Union Black and award-winning Corcadorca Theatre Company!

Joining the previously-announced production of Asking for It and artist-in-residence Doireann Ní Ghríofa, Cork Midsummer Festival is delighted to announce the latest additions to our 2018 festival programme - a European partnership hip hop and circus event, Union Black, and The Numbered by Elias Canetti presented by Corcadorca Theatre Company in Cork's iconic Fitzgerald's Park!

Union Black
is an explosive mix of dance-theatre and circus from critically acclaimed hip hop collective Far From The Norm (UK) with partners Crying Out Loud (UK), Cork Midsummer Festival, Le Plus Petit Cirque Du Monde (FR) and Subtopia (SE). Join the crowd, roaring and chanting, waiting in anticipation for the match of the year. The players: a selection of Europe’s best hip hop dancers and circus artists...

With a breathtaking combination of fast-paced footwork and physical floor routines, Union Black takes on one of the globe's favourite sports - football - to tackle questions of race, nationality and identity. This athletic, energising show, created especially for Cork, uses a fusion of b-boying, popping, lindy hop and contemporary dance alongside the strength and skill in acro-dance, Chinese pole, juggling and tightrope walking of local and international circus artists.

Expect them to tear up the stage – and the rule book!

Running 15 - 17 June at Neptune Stadium, find out more and book now by clicking here - early bird tickets for €10 available until 2 May! (For a sneak peek, check out some behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage below!)

Following their critically-acclaimed production of Far Away on Spike Island in 2017, returning festival favourite's Corcadorca Theatre Company will present The Numbered by Elias Canetti from 18 - 30 June (previews 15 & 16 June) in Fitzgerald's Park.

50 ... 32 ... 70 ... 28.

What if we all knew at what age we were going to die - how would this change us as individuals and as a society? The Numbered, an engaging and thought-provoking play by award-winning writer Elias Canetti, presents such a world.

Reuniting the Irish Times Theatre Award-winning design team from 2017 festival hit Far Away, including Mel Mercier (Best Soundscape) and Aedin Cosgrove & Paul Keogan (Best Lighting), The Nameless sees the acclaimed Corcadorca Theatre Company return to Cork’s iconic Fitzgerald’s Park.
