theatrenotes review

A cult figure on the international dance scene, Jérôme Bel brings the Irish premiere of one of his most notorious works to Cork. Considered his signature work, The Show Must Go On is a delightfully subversive game of anticipation and expectation that blurs the line between spectator and spectacle. Provocative, ironic and anti-theatrical this show has charmed and outraged audiences around Europe and North America since debuting in 2001. Featuring 18 performers, 18 pop classics and 1 DJ, be prepared for a night at the theatre like you’ve never experienced.

Jérôme Bel received a Bessie Award for the performances of The Show Must Go On in New York in 2005.

“Bel’s work is genuine, if ephemeral, it is exciting, smart and great, great fun.” DANCE EUROPE

“Provocative, cerebral and funny, this minimalist work erases the comforting distance between performer and spectator.” THE NEW YORK TIMES
