Mimic

Written, composed and performed by Raymond Scannell

Directed and designed by Tom Creed

Performed and underscored on a piano, this one-man tour-de-force is a unique and entertaining vision of what happens to a nation that forgets its heritage.

Julian Neary, a professional mimic and comedian who found fame early but whose fortunes have plummeted, returns home to Ireland wanting to find the community that he rebelled against as a child. But rather than the mystic, spiritual place of solace and healing that he expects, he finds instead a barren landscape of abandoned houses and ruined shopping centres. First performed at the Cork Midsummer Festival 2007, Mimic played the Galway Arts Festival ’08, the Kilkenny Arts Festival and Dublin Fringe Festival ’08, where it picked up an award for ‘Best Male Performance’.

David Greig (Midsummer), Raymond Scannell and Jack Healy (Shostakovich) will be in conversation on Thursday 25 June, 4pm at the Artists Guesthouse, 9 Chapel Street, Shandon
