Cork Midsummer Festival

Welcome to the Cork Midsummer Festival 2007
Tuesday 19th - Saturday 30th June 2007.

Welcome to the 2007 Cork Midsummer Festival, my first as Festival Director. The Cork Midsummer Festival is one of the fastest growing arts festivals in Ireland and this year will be as dynamic and action-packed as ever. For two weeks at the end
Cork Midsummer Festival
of June, Cork will explode into life with theatre, dance, music, visual arts and circus taking place in a range of venues, from construction cranes to naval bases, nightclubs to residential houses, parks to cathedrals, theatres and factories. We have more free events than ever. Don’t miss the brilliant Wired & Free flying high above the city centre Docklands – a late night Midsummer treat for all the family. Corcadorca returns with their stunning new outdoor production Woyzeck. All the way from Syria comes the Bath of Baghdad: a harrowing story about the war in Iraq told from a Middle Eastern perspective. This year we also present a much expanded Spiegeltent programme which sees Emmet Place play host to two incredible contemporary circus companies – including the first visit to Ireland of the Fire Tusk Pain Proof Circus – as well as a glittering array of cabaret, comedy and live music. And if you’ve still got the energy, then there’s the Lord Mayor’s Picnic in the Park – Cork’s favourite family day out. We hope you enjoy our programme and, whatever your interest, you’ll find something that’s for you.

WILLIAM GALINSKY Festival Director.

A message from COUNCILLOR MICHAEL AHERN
Lord Mayor of Cork.

The Cork Midsummer Festival is always a tantalizing prospect and after the hugely successful 2006 festival, this year it enters its second decade as one of Ireland’s most exciting and diverse Summer events.

This year sees a programme which will appeal to people of all ages and walks of life. Whether it’s Corcadorca’s thrilling new production of Woyzeck on Haulbowline Naval Base, or Fidget Feet’s enchanting Wired & Free, taking place from the end of a crane over the city centre docklands, or the prospect of seeing one of the concerts at St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral or a gig in the increasingly popular Spiegeltent, Cork becomes an exhilarating experience for Corkonians and visitors alike.

The Lord Mayor’s Picnic in the Park re-acquaints us all with the delights of Fitzgerald’s park and is a day of community and festivity for all the family, a day for enjoying good food, street performance, taking in a boat ride and meeting old friends.

I congratulate all those who have worked so hard to put this programme together and the business community and those individuals who have given so generously of their financial support and I whole-heartedly recommend you all partake in the festivities! Rath dé é ar an obair.
