The Sultans Of Ping FC formed in Cork in 1989 and were signed by Rhythm King Records in 1991. Cult classic ‘Where’s Me Jumper’ was their first release in 1992. Debut album ‘Casual Sex In The Cineplex’ was released in 1993 and made the UK top 30, along with their fourth single ‘U Talk 2 Much’. 1994 saw the release of the 2nd LP ‘Teenage Drug’. 3 singles from the album narrowly fell short of the UK top 30. In 1995 the band changed their name to Sultans and pursued a more American sound. ‘Good Year For Trouble’ came out in 1996 as the band continued their 150 gigs a year policy. In 1997, the Sultans ran out of steam and played their final show in the legendary Sir Henry’s in Cork.

In 2005 the band returned due to popular demand and have continued to play live occasionally since. Their live show hasn’t lost any of its sparkle despite the long hiatus. A live DVD was released by Cherry Red records in 2006. The Sultans are currently recording new material for an EP to be released in the Autumn 2007.
