With Soap!, Dark Week and The Train Show, Playgroup created some of the most thrilling and memorable shows in the Cork Midsummer Festival’s history.

In 2008, Playgroup and the festival will co-produce a new musical that features moving statues, a talking dog and the magical disappearance of the Shandon steeple. Not your normal musical, the show is at once surreal and ordinary, dark but with a seam of humanity running through. Drawing on morality plays, Tom Waits, Dante and the unique spirit of the People’s Republic it creates something truly original.

Playgroup will be workshopping the script during the 2007 festival and, for an hour each day, will open the doors of the rehearsal room to an audience. We invite you to join us in the development of a unique, exciting and ambitious project.
