The Midsummer Festival’s “play on a piano”, Mimic is a black comedy prophesying the Ireland of the near future. Julian Neary, an impersonator whose act has gone tired overseas returns home a ghost of a man. In search of a mystic, spiritual island of solace and healing, Neary finds, instead, a barren, urban landscape of abandoned houses, shopping centres and apartment blocks. ‘The Tiger Crash’ they called it. He goes on a binge for five years and ends up in a shoddily run institution having to tell his story to a group of manic patients.

Written and performed (on a piano) by award winning playwright Raymond Scannell, Mimic sends up a near-futuristic nation with no connection to it’s heritage.
