Opera 2005 presents: Threepenny Opera. By Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill.
Directed by Mary Curtin. Conducted by Kevin Mallon.
Designed by Pat Murray.
In the Threepenny Opera we meet the notorious Macheath and his whores Jenny Diver and Suky Tawdry. We are transported to the sleazy underworld of the 1930's; a world that seemed to survive on transaction and hypocrisy. Everything could be bought and sold; loyalty, friendship, betrayal and sex. This is a world where social conditions restricted human potential and one that fluctuates between criminal and bourgeois patterns of behaviour. Opera 2005, Cork's opera company, brings this cabaret production to the Spiegeltent this June. Don't miss the opportunity to see this classic opera, which was adapted from The Beggar's Opera (John Gay) originally written as a parody of grandiose eighteenth century opera.
“Cork at last has an opera company worthy of any European city. Go and judge for yourself” Declan Townsend, Irish Examiner.
