Following on from the sell out success of last year’s The Merchant of
Venice, Corcadorca will stage an outdoor production of Shakespeare’s
The Tempest in Fitzgerald’s Park. Using the natural landscape of the
park as the backdrop, Corcadorca will create the magical and musical
world of Prospero’s spirit-inhabited island.
Corcadorca has a reputation for innovative and exciting productions
and is
committed to creating theatre in unusual locations. Previous notable
Corcadorca productions in the Midsummer Festival include A Midsummer
Night’s Dream in Fitzgerald’s Park and Fota Gardens (2001), and
Losing Steam in the old Ford’s plant (2004).
“Like a child allowed to stay up late to watch some historical event
on TV, the
audience of Corcadorca’s The Merchant of Venice will always remember
it with
a warm and magical glow.” – The Irish Examiner
“Corcadorca, a company for which site specific work in the city of
Cork has become a byword.” - The Sunday Tribune
