The Tallis Scholars are the leading exponents of Renaissance sacred
music throughout the world. Peter Phillips, their director and
founder, creates an ensemble with impeccable tuning, blend, purity
and clarity. It is the resulting beauty of sound for which the Tallis
Scholars have become so widely renowned.
The Scholars return to St. Fin Barre’s with an enthralling programme
featuring work from the contemporary composer John Tavener and the
Tudor composer John Taverner. The modern composer Tavener was
enthralled when he first heard the Tallis Scholars performing his
near namesake’s work as has long believed in the close
spiritual affinity between their music. Despite their differing time
frames the Tudor composer’s sacred music and Tavener’s eclectic and
often religious compositions come together beautifully and create a
thrilling juxtaposition.

TAVENER - In the month of Athyr | TAVENER - Song of Athene
