The Knitting Map was one of the cornerstone projects of Cork’s year
as European Capital of Culture during 2005, and culminated in a year
of knitting by almost 2,500 knitters from 22 countries. Patterns and
wool colour for the work were generated daily throughout 2005 by
technologies invented by half/angel which translated the busy-ness of
the city and the feel of the weather into pattern and colour. The
finished work, an abstract textile 65m long and 20m wide, is
exhibited for the first time
during the Midsummer Festival.
There will be a roundtable discussion about The Knitting Map project
on Tuesday 27th June at 1.10pm in the Spiegeltent. This will be
chaired by the Artistic Director of Triskel, Penny Rae.
