Welcome to the Cork Midsummer Festival 2006
The Cork Midsummer Festival is always an exciting prospect, and this year it promises to be truly spectacular. The Festival is steadily growing in importance and this summer we have the opportunity to make it truly memorable.
From Corcadorca’s The Tempest in Fitzgerald’s Park to ImMortal2 on Mardyke Walk, from the beauty of The Tallis Scholars in St Fin Barre’s to the vibrancy of the Spiegeltent, Cork in June will be a riot of entertainment and colour.
Through The Lord Mayor’s Picnic in the Park we hope to re-acquaint Corkonians and visitors alike to the joys of Fitzgerald’s park. A day of magicians, drummers, boat trips on the river, food and fun workshops promise to make the day a truly spectacular family event.
I congratulate all who have worked so hard to put this programme together and the business community who have given so generously of their financial support and I urge you all to partake in the Festival. Rath dé é ar an obair.
Cllr. Deirdre Clune Lord Mayor of Cork.
I am truly happy to introduce the most spectacular Cork Midsummer Festival ever. For a fortnight, Cork will see an
explosion of theatre, music, dance and more in venues ranging from cars to steeples and from hairdressing salons to the English Market. We welcome back festival favourites Corcadorca, who bring us another mouth-watering outdoor production, and The Tallis Scholars, who bring a thrilling programme for their third visit to Cork. We are also delighted to host the first visits to Ireland of ImMortal2, recently voted the best ever UK circus show, and the extraordinary and astonishing installation Of All The People In All The World and this year we extend the festival to Cobh with a substantial sound art programme made possible by the county council. Alongside these is an array of wonderful local, national and international events that I believe includes something to excite and appeal to everyone.
